Betting glossary

Every betting term you'll meet on Football24, explained in plain English.

Accumulator (Acca)

A single bet combining several selections. Every leg must win for the bet to pay out, and the odds multiply together β€” bigger returns, higher risk.

Asian Handicap

A handicap market that removes the draw by giving one team a virtual head start (e.g. βˆ’1.5 goals). Splits stakes across half-goal lines to reduce the outcomes to two.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS)

A market on whether both sides find the net. Pays out on "Yes" if each team scores at least once, regardless of the final result.

Cash Out

Settling a bet before the event finishes for a value offered by the bookmaker, locking in a partial profit or cutting a loss.

Clean Sheet

When a team concedes no goals across a match. Available as its own market for either side.

Decimal Odds

Odds shown as a single number (e.g. 2.50). Your total return = stake Γ— odds. 2.00 is even money; below 2.00 is odds-on.

Double Chance

One bet covering two of the three 1X2 outcomes (home or draw, away or draw, home or away). Lower odds, higher strike rate.

Draw No Bet

A two-way market where your stake is refunded if the match ends level β€” the draw is voided rather than lost.

Handicap

A market that levels an uneven contest by adding or subtracting goals from a team before kick-off.

Implied Probability

The chance an outcome happens according to its odds. For decimal odds it is 1 Γ· odds, expressed as a percentage.

In-Play (Live) Betting

Placing bets after a match has started, with odds updating in real time as the game develops.

Margin (Overround)

The bookmaker’s built-in edge β€” the amount by which the implied probabilities of all outcomes add up to more than 100%. Lower is better for bettors.

Over/Under (Totals)

A bet on whether a stat β€” usually total goals β€” is above or below a set line, e.g. Over 2.5 goals means three or more.

Parlay

The American term for an accumulator: multiple selections in one bet with multiplied odds.

Price

Another word for the odds attached to a selection.

Stake

The amount of money placed on a bet.

Value Bet

A selection whose true probability is higher than the odds imply β€” the long-term foundation of profitable betting.

1X2

The classic three-way match-result market: 1 = home win, X = draw, 2 = away win.
