Betting glossary
Every betting term you'll meet on Football24, explained in plain English.
Accumulator (Acca)
A single bet combining several selections. Every leg must win for the bet to pay out, and the odds multiply together — bigger returns, higher risk.
Asian Handicap
A handicap market that removes the draw by giving one team a virtual head start (e.g. −1.5 goals). Splits stakes across half-goal lines to reduce the outcomes to two.
Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
A market on whether both sides find the net. Pays out on "Yes" if each team scores at least once, regardless of the final result.
Cash Out
Settling a bet before the event finishes for a value offered by the bookmaker, locking in a partial profit or cutting a loss.
Clean Sheet
When a team concedes no goals across a match. Available as its own market for either side.
Decimal Odds
Odds shown as a single number (e.g. 2.50). Your total return = stake × odds. 2.00 is even money; below 2.00 is odds-on.
Double Chance
One bet covering two of the three 1X2 outcomes (home or draw, away or draw, home or away). Lower odds, higher strike rate.
Draw No Bet
A two-way market where your stake is refunded if the match ends level — the draw is voided rather than lost.
Handicap
A market that levels an uneven contest by adding or subtracting goals from a team before kick-off.
Implied Probability
The chance an outcome happens according to its odds. For decimal odds it is 1 ÷ odds, expressed as a percentage.
In-Play (Live) Betting
Placing bets after a match has started, with odds updating in real time as the game develops.
Margin (Overround)
The bookmaker’s built-in edge — the amount by which the implied probabilities of all outcomes add up to more than 100%. Lower is better for bettors.
Over/Under (Totals)
A bet on whether a stat — usually total goals — is above or below a set line, e.g. Over 2.5 goals means three or more.
Parlay
The American term for an accumulator: multiple selections in one bet with multiplied odds.
Price
Another word for the odds attached to a selection.
Stake
The amount of money placed on a bet.
Value Bet
A selection whose true probability is higher than the odds imply — the long-term foundation of profitable betting.
1X2
The classic three-way match-result market: 1 = home win, X = draw, 2 = away win.
